THE STORY OF A 'CRIMINAL': the narrative of Marcão's (un)construction in the pages of Ponta Grossa newspapers

Abstract

This article discusses the (dis)construction of a character in the police pages of the newspapers of Ponta Grossa, a city in the interior of Paraná, in the late 1990s. Marcos Antônio de Oliveira, 21, was the focus of reports in the newspapers Diário dos Campos, Diário da Manhã and Jornal da Manhã, in November 1998. The boy’s odyssey had several chapters, with cinematographic assaults and escapes, reflected in headlines, reports with space and humanization, which told the deeds of the young black, poor and resident of the periphery, until death. The debate study as the journalistic narrative built a character contradictory and that conquered prominent space in newspapers.
