Journalism in the construction and re-signification of memory: an analysis of the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation's Gabo Prize (2023)

]This article analyzes how journalism contributes to the construction and re-signification of individual and collective memory, focusing on the Gabo Prize (2023) awarded by the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation in Colombia. As a way of honoring Ibero-American journalism, the Gabo Foundation, through its awards, is an interesting object for thinking about how memory and journalism are intrinsically constituted. In this sense, we analyze how the winning articles of the Gabo Prize (2023) highlight historical narratives that enhance the re-signification of neglected and/or silenced events in Latin and Ibero-American history, building a memory that is (also) re-signified from their accounts.
