GEOMORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CARIRÉ, STATE OF CEARÁ

Abstract

The object of study of the present work is the geomorphology of the municipality of Cariré, located in the northwestern portion of the State of Ceará. The methodology adopted was the geomorphological analysis, endorsed by bibliographic review and fieldwork. The work had as objective to analyze the geomorphological compartments present in the study area, in order to subsidize the region with information about its landscapes, since there is a large research deficit of this nature in the region. As a result, it is point out that the following landscapes units were identified: planation surface with inselbergs (crystalline and sedimentary) and fluvial plain, relative to the middle course of the Acaraú River. These landscapes units feature their own geoenvironmental characteristics, forming an atypical picture in the semi-arid region of Ceará.
