This work aims to analyze the dynamics of the winds in the city of Aracaju, capital of the state of Sergipe, northeast of Brazil. Knowledge about this meteorological variable is fundamental for aspects of urban planning taking into account its influence on air pollution and thermal comfort. The analysis in question followed a historical series of hourly wind direction and speed data. The period of data analyzed was 2003 to 2019, this being the longest time scale series made available by INMET. The data were processed and worked with the software R. Boxplots were generated allowing the analysis of the oscillation of the wind speed over the months and hours of the day. In the same software, wind roses were generated that made it possible to understand the prevailing wind directions in the city in the different months and times of the day. There was a predominance of winds from the eastern quadrant, with average speeds between 3.5 and 4 m / s and the strong influence of regional synoptic systems such as the Atlantic equatorial and intertropical convergence zone, and mesoscale such as the sea breeze fronts.
