Abstract

How are the dynamics of land organization for family farming in Brazil configured, according to the 2017 agricultural census? The work aims to evaluate access to land for family farming, in the agricultural census of Brazil, 2017. Articles from sciencedirect.com and documents from government free access websites were analyzed, in the agricultural census of Brazil, 2017, based on the research carried out by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, IBGE, and the Rural Environmental Registry - CAR - where the comparative tables were evaluated, respectively: a) the distribution of agricultural establishments, by typology and groups of total area by Brazilian region; b) comparison between the estimated numbers of access to land for family and non-family farming; c) access to land through agrarian reform between 1986 and 2022. It was observed that, in 2017, according to the agricultural census for family farming in Brazil, by region, the total group that occupies areas of less than 50 hectares in agriculture family presents the following numbers by region: North 70%, Northeast 90%, Southeast 89%, South 94% and Central West 71%. It was found that, between 2006 and 2017, there was a positive variation in non-family agriculture per unit by 45% and per hectare by 7%. It was observed that the variation was considered smaller in the analysis of the same period for family farming, which presented a smaller variation per unit by 11% and per hectare by 1%. In relation to rural settlements by families, the greatest expression occurred in 2005 with the settlement of 102,038 families. In the decade between 2010 and 2020, the numbers fell considerably.
