Abstract

The article analyzes the changes and challenges in Geography teacher education following the approval of the National Curricular Base for Teacher Education (BNC-Training), which imposed a new curricular reform on teacher education courses in Brazil. To do so, it conducts a documentary analysis of the last two National Curricular Guidelines for teacher education and three Pedagogical Projects of face-to-face Geography teacher education courses at the Federal University of Paraíba and the Federal University of Campina Grande. The qualitative research also used bibliographic review and video recordings as complementary sources. Content analysis was the technique used to examine the data, which revealed differences and advancements in the investigated courses, whose representative bodies' positions are contrary to and resistant to the changes imposed by the BNC-Training.
