Abstract

We wish to delve into the concept of sexual division of labor, as elaborated by Danièle Kergoat and Helena Hirata in the 1980’s. We intend to discuss how it is used as a key concept in contemporary researches that investigate gender relations and work in metallurgical and confection industry, restaurants kitchens and the collection of recyclable materials in the streets. Our intention is to point out how these different objects of analysis allow us to bring up the topicality and the plasticity of the concept.
