Abstract

Heleieth Saffioti is one of the leading feminist intellectuals in Brazil. His vast contribution falls within the scope of Brazilian social thought, in gender studies, in the sociology of work and in the debate on violence against women. This work seeks to emphasize Saffioti's pioneering character in articulating gender and patriarchy synthesized in the category patriarchal gender order. Based on a bibliographic research, covering essays by Saffioti and his interlocutors, the theoretical-methodological construction of the gender patriarchal order category is presented, with the articulation between patriarchy, racism and capitalism and the critical balance on gender and patriarchy.
