Abstract

This review aims to discuss Ricardo Festi's book, "The Origins of Sociology of Work: Crossroads between Brazil and France." The text analyzes the development of the discipline in both countries during the 1950s and 1960s, seeking to establish a connection between the ideology of modernization and social planning in the economic and social context experienced by the authors at that time. In this regard, it focuses on the structuring of monopolistic capitalism in the 20th century and the transnational academic networks formed, which served as significant determinants for the emergence of sociology of work during that period. The book's final reflections seek to influence the revival of studies on concrete totality and critically reflect on the archaic and modern dualism that underpinned the founding authors of the discipline.
