In 2012, Decree No. 7,747/2012 came into effect – the result of an interministerial articulation and pressure from indigenous movements, establishing the National Policy for Indigenous Territorial and Environmental Management (PNGATI) to be implemented through the Land Territorial and Environmental Management Plan Indigenous Peoples (PGTA). From this legal and political context, and from the spontaneous rapprochement between the Potiguara community and the Interdisciplinary Group for Research in Culture, Society & Environment (GIPCSA) linked to the Graduate Program in Anthropology at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB ), an intercultural space is created between researchers, students and indigenous people, including their leaders, the caciques, which materializes in this article elaborated from the dialogue of knowledge between the researcher(s) and the cacique at the time and currently indigenous leadership.
