Objective: To verify which particularities of the personal profile explain the characteristics of entrepreneurial behavior, using age, level of education, marital status and average income as sociodemographic variables.
Background: In a context of strong changes in the organizational environment, based on technological development, reflections on how the main characteristics inherent in the entrepreneurial profile and how they are being impacted becomes relevant, especially in the Brazilian national context. Allied to this, it is necessary to verify which aspects of the personal profile are preponderant in this process, something that the literature already addresses, but in a summarized way and restricted to a few variables. This study seeks to broaden this set.
Method: Descriptive, based on a survey carried out in the main shopping centers in the two largest cities in Paraíba (Campina Grande and João Pessoa) using a questionnaire based on the study by McClelland (1972). The quantitative nature is evidenced by Spearman's correlation test and multiple linear regression, where the sociodemographic variables used were tested to verify their explanatory degree in relation to the characteristics of entrepreneurial behavior.
Results: Among the four predictor variables, only age group and average income level moderately explained entrepreneurial characteristics focused on the achievement block. The planning and power blocks did not have correlations strong enough to reach statistical significance.
Contributions: This study presented an extension in the use of sociodemographic variables using variables that have not been addressed in the literature, and it is important to carry out new tests considering others, in order to verify which personal factors are preponderant in the characteristics of entrepreneurial behavior.
Keywords: Personal profile; entrepreneurial behavior; entrepreneurship; managers.
