Abstract

The European policies developed in the last century have allowed access to housing for a large part of its citizens. Some of them were linked to specific social programs, others were used to promote cooperative initiatives. In this scenario, the Housing Cooperatives of Use emerged, mostly based on the Andel model. Originated in Denmark and spread in the Nordic countries during the second half of the 20th Century, they earn a great encouragement in the 21st Century. The crises generated by the profound global changes driven by the neoliberal paradigm have supposed the destruction of jobs and their precariousness, and at the same time, expropriating a large number of citizens from their homes, through eviction or the process of gentrification. In this new conjuncture, the Housing Cooperatives of Use, associated with the cohousing system, to present as a valuable solution to access to the dwelling.
