Abstract

This paper presents the results of unpublished radiocarbon dating obtained by different metho-ds (TL and C14), and propose a chronological sequence for the human occupation in the area of Salobo, Southeastern of Pará State, Brazil. The chronology obtained situates the human presence in the region between 4000 BC and 1800 AD, indicating 6000 years of occupation in which were observed three distinct periods: ancient - related to hunter-gatherer groups; intermediary - related to hunter-gatherer groups and pottery-making groups; and late - related to pottery-making groups. The maps produced show the insertion of these sites in the landscape, as well as occupations in different and same time periods. A preliminary attempt to situate the data into a broader context is intended, through the picture presented, contributing to the debate about processes of human occupation in Amazonia. Keywords: Chronology, Amazonia Human Occupation, Southeastern Pará State.
