Abstract

This work comments on the evolution of libraries as disseminators of information focusing on the use of informational and communicational technologies, and discussing the performance of the libraries’ functions in order to adjust themselves to the technological evolution. Thus, the libraries’ web sites work to represent the library in the Internet, to enlarge the libraries’ performance carrying out several functions using the Web technological potential and to improve the relationship with and the attendance to their public. It is emphasized the importance of planning and managering the libraries’ web sitess. It suggests the adoption of marketing techniques in order to better understand the information matters so that libraries and their web sites may improve their performance.
