A ORIGEM E A EVOLUÇÃO DOS ATUAIS ESPAÇOS SILVESTRES EM PORTUGAL CONTINENTAL – BREVE SÍNTESE
Abstract
In mainland Portugal, during the Quaternary period, there was a profound transformation in the wildland areas, with the Laurissilva naturally giving way to the Fagosilva, while more recently It was the action of Man that determined the profound change that led to the creation of forested areas exposed to a high risk of fire and with growing phytosanitary problems, especially north of the river Tagus and in the Algarve, where we find areas of scrub or extensive monocultures of eucalyptus and maritime pine, while in the Alentejo cork oak and holm oak forests prevail.
