Resumo: O artigo é um estudo relativo ao espaço cênico teatral. A partir das teorias de David Harvey sobre os mecanismos de compressão do tempo/espaço geradas pelas forças capitalistas na Europa do século XIX – que, segundo este autor, resultaram em alterações significativas no campo da arte –, investiga-se como este fenômeno atua sobre o palco teatral. Apresenta, conclusivamente, a obra de Adolphe Appia como questão das tensões que o mundo urbano moderno produz, traduzida na expressão corpo/espaco-cênico. Abstract: The article is a study about theatrical scenic space. From the theories of David Harvey on compression of time/space generated by the capitalist power in the Europe of the 19th century, which according to the author, resulted in significant changes in the field of art, we investigate how this fact impacts the theatre stage. It presents, conclusively, the work of Adolphe Appia as a matter of tension produced by the modern urban world translated into the expression body/performance space.
