Abstract

The urbanization and industrialization ofthe Brazilian economy, during the second half of the last century, caused to agriculture a new dynamics and a new place in the Brazilian economy. Although its participation in the total GIP has been reduced, the primary GIP tried a fort and continued increase. Under the hypothesis that the principal factor for this process of growth has been the technological progress, the objective of this articJe is to analyze the intensity with this process changed the labor relations and the leveI of agricultural job during the second half of the twentieth century. The research show that the effects of the technological progress on primary labor market was more intensive on the labor relations than on the job leveI. The small establishments had served as a "shock absorber" for retention of the agricultural force-of-work. The technological incorporation raised the organic composition of capital and determined the change of the formal subordination to the real subordination of agriculture to the capital. This result had been differentiated according to regions and size ofthe establishments.
