The lirerature has been showing that the commercial opening, implemented in Brazil during the last decade, had significant effects on employment and wages. To the light of the Hecksher-Ohlin theory anel ofthe Stolper-Samuelson theorem, this srudy analyzed how efficicndy the resources would be allocared in the Brazilian econorny, with the reduccion of commercial batriers. Especifically, rwclve secrors associated to the supposed comparative advantages of the Country were compared (those intensive in labor and those intensive in natural resources), relatively to the other secrors (intensive in capital), during the period 1988-2001. It was proceeded an econometric analysis relating the share of employment to trade variables as export and import coefficients of the industry, besides a descriptive analysis af the patriciparion ofemployment on industries inrensive in capital, labor and natural resources. The results confitrm in most of the cases, the theory of H-O, with the sectors inrensive in labor and natural resources enlarging its share in total employment, and sectors intensive in capitallosing participation.
