Abstract

The main objective of this study is to analyze the evolution of female participation in relation to men's participation in the Brazilian banking sector, as well as to outline the demographic and socioeconomic profile of those employed in such activity during the years 1994, 2004 and 2014. For this, the main Data source is the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS) of the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE). The main results show that the banks remain slightly masculine (51.05%), with little difference in relation to female participation, because over the years they have gained space in this segment. Regarding the other personal characteristics, in 2014, both men and women are the majority in the age group of 30 to 39 years, they remain five years or more in the same job and have a complete upper level, and the female contingent with this level of education is higher when compared to male participation. The biggest difference observed is in terms of positions and incomes, where they are the majority in occupations with the greatest social and economic projection (board and management), thus earning higher incomes, despite being more educated or even when they occupy the same post job. In addition, it was possible to observe a worsening in Brazilian banking employment, both for men and women, especially in relation to wage flat rate.
