Abstract

The aim of this article is to identify wage inequalities among workers with complete higher education who work and who do not work in their areas of education in Brazil.  It is affirmed the existence of a high concentration of graduates in few areas of education, being higher in the Educational Sciences, predominantly female and with lower remuneration.  The training areas with high incomes are mostly made up of men and whites.  Professional performance in an area compatible with educational training leads to salaries very close to the average salary of the training area. The practice of the profession in an overeducation situation causes wage reductions compared to the area of training. The incompatibility between training and professional performance form considerable wage punishments. Public or private efforts to association higher education and jobs deserve to be considered as employment and wage policy in Brazil.
