Abstract

The Pantanal region quite old in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, located in Corumbá municipality occupies an area of 64968.84 km2, is limited to the west by Bolivia and the north by the state of Mato Grosso. It is in this place that has constant presence the Pantaneiros, which emerged episodes, tales, stories and characters, at different times in history, lulled by the motion of the Paraguay River and the shadows of this biome that populated and populate, even today, the popular imagination. This imagery has transformed this region into a large mythical facts scenario. As the Pantanal has multiple sub-regions, we chose only one of them, Nhecolândia. This is due to the fact that locality have become fertile ground for a space of beliefs, superstitions, supernatural events in the popular imagination. The animals, in this space, also acquire important role in oral narratives and mythic figures populate the popular imagination, several groups and individuals. In this context, it can be said that the mythical narratives are also very present in the culture and identity in the creation of the pantaneiro subject. Thus, our research investigates the ideological support that sustains the discursive practices historically inscribed in mythic discourse, and to describe and explain the relationship between mythology and reality of these people. Based on the theoretical assumptions of the French discursive semiotics and his followers, such as Fiorin (2006) and Barros (2005), we used the concept of themes and figures to analyze the narrative "The story of pawn who doubted of father of the forest "that makes up our corpus. Observe the creation of a mythical universe where the real and the imaginary intertwine forming a network of characteristic stories of their living space.
