Abstract

Globalisation, the expansion of capitalism and the new technologies of communication and information have modified the world, reshaping social, political, economic and cultural spaces. In this context, we witness the occurrence of fundamental changes which have affected work and the labour market. This article deals specifically with Brazil’s insertion in this new world order and explains the principal strategies to be implemented by Brazil on its path to the information society, emphasising the juridical context and structural actions, amongst others. To that end, we use as reference the Livro Verde produced under Takahashi’s co-ordination (2000) which deals with the Programme of the Information Society in Brazil and the book by Manuel Castells (1999) entitled The Network Society - (The era of information: economy, society and culture; v.1).
