ANALYSIS OF THE FLOOD OCCURRED IN MAY 2017 IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF MARECHAL DEODORO - AL

The State of Alagoas has a history of disasters arising from extreme effects of geological, hydrological, meteorological, climatic and biological nature. With this in mind, the present work has as a fundamental requirement to report the disaster caused by the climatic and hydrological environment in the Municipality of Marechal Deodoro at the end of May 2017. The municipality suffered major damages caused by high rainfall that caused flooding in the Sumaúma River and the Manguaba lagoon. These water systems contribute to the population of the municipalities of Pilar and Marechal Deodoro. The Sumaúma River and its sub-afluents flooded neighborhoods in Marechal Deodoro, leaving hundreds of people homeless and homeless. The methodology applied in the research occurred through bibliographic analysis, website visits, municipal public agencies, civil defense and field activity for the application of a semi-structured questionnaire and interview to provide data for research, in order to inform the residents about flood mitigation measures. With that, the result was the making of thematic maps on the subject.
