Abstract

This article aims to analyze the rainfall regime and the outbreak of natural disasters in the municipality of Ingá, Agreste da Paraíba. To achieve this objective, two main steps were carried out, which correspond to the analysis of precipitation variation and the survey of natural disasters. Precipitation data were made available by the Executive Agency for Water Management of the State of Paraíba – AESA for the period between 2003 and 2015. Information regarding natural disasters was acquired on the website of the Integrated Disaster Information System - S2ID and in the Damage Assessment forms - AVADAN of the National Civil Defense System - SINDEC. Ten intense and extreme rainfall events were recorded. The only hydrometeorological disaster recorded by the Civil Defense in the period is associated with the flood episode that occurred between 01/20 and 23/01/2004, which accumulated 181.4 mm. The damage caused by the flooding was mainly concentrated in the Human and Material areas, affecting 841 people, 113 residences (51 of which were destroyed) and 108 kilometers of roads. Regarding environmental damage, the impacts on the soil (erosion and landslide) were the most significant, classified as High Intensity.
