CHARACTERIZATION AND ANALYSIS OF USE AND LAND OCCUPATION IN SURROUNDING RESERVOIR SANTANA, RAFAEL FERNANDES/RN

Abstract

This research aims to present a land characterization and analysis of the use and occupation around the Santana reservoir, located in the municipality of Rafael Fernandes, state of Rio Grande do Norte. Thus, we adopted the methodology proposed by Moreira et al. (2011) and the new interpretation key (1992), based on Land Use Manual IBGE (2013) and bibliographic allusive to the theme. Were classified six categories (Native Forest, Undergrowth, Permanent Culture, Temporary Culture, Discovery Area and Livestock), showing a heathy predominance with 37,0% of the total area, but in a less significant livestock 0.2% of the total area. Thus, it is expected that the data can support for biodiversity conservation, thus allowing a new sustainable look to the future of the communities located around the reservoir.
