The article aims to analyze the relationship between political power and economic elites destined to perpetuate power and its effects on Brazilian representative democracy. The research problem is related to identifying the way used by the political class, associated with the economic elite, to keep power concentrated among its agents. In this sense, the theory of elites and the historical predominance of oligarchic powers in Brazil are analyzed. With the corruption scandals, the interaction between the political power and the economic elites is verified and it is examined how the control of the State by these structures impact on the Brazilian representativeness. For that, the hypothetical deductive method is used with the bibliographic research. It was concluded that the existence of economic elites, as well as the structured corruption in their relations, has a negative impact on representative democracy. The political class favors the economic elite in public contracts and many other incentives in exchange for economic support in elections.
