Abstract

Some Anglo-American States suggest that, in some cases, the combination of prevention*, community, and partnership could be used as a substitute of the traditional punishment system of the criminal justice. This programme includes State organisations, the community, as well as the partnership of public and private institutions. The present article analyses some of these new techniques of crime control - community policing, neighbourhood watch, community prosecution, community sanctions, mediation - as they are used in Great Britain and Australia. Furthermore it tackles the problem of the prevention/repression of crime in the U.S.A. during the last decade of the 20th century, describing the "Broken Windows Theory" and its effectiveness as an instrument for the global control of crime.
