Author Guidelines

PROLÍNGUA: Publication Guidelines

Submission: Articles must be unpublished, and submissions must be submitted for review via the journal’s website at http://periodicos.ufpb.br/ojs/index.php/prolingua. In addition to the file containing the article (without author identification), you must also include a file identifying the work and the authors, their academic affiliation, and email address. Only files saved with the .doc extension will be reviewed.

ATTENTION: Articles that are not strictly formatted according to the journal’s guidelines will not be reviewed. To ensure compliance with formatting rules, etc., please refer to articles submitted in recent issues of the journal. Please also note that only ONE article per author or co-author is permitted for submission to the same issue.

Formatting: Manuscripts must be typed in Word for Windows or a compatible program and follow this format:

Font and spacing: Times New Roman, size 12, except for block quotations (more than 3 lines: size 11) and footnotes (size 10); single spacing between lines and paragraphs; 1.5 spacing between sections of the text; pages set to A4 format, unnumbered, with 3 cm margins on the top and left and 2 cm margins on the bottom and right.

Illustrations: Tables, figures, graphs, drawings, and charts must follow current ABNT standards.

Length: Articles must be a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 pages.

Text Organization: The organization of the manuscripts must follow this sequence: TITLE (centered, in all caps, with the English version immediately below if the article is written in Portuguese—if the text is written in a foreign language, the title must be in Portuguese); ABSTRACT (maximum of 300 words) and KEYWORDS (minimum of 3 words; maximum of 6 words—separated by periods), written in the language of the article; ABSTRACT and KEYWORDS, all in 10-point font; abstracts must provide context for the topic, state the objectives, describe the theoretical and methodological framework, and present the main results; REFERENCES (only works cited in the text, with titles in bold, without spaces between titles). Section titles must be numbered (except for the references) and in bold, with only the first letter capitalized.

Footnotes: Footnotes should be kept to a minimum, using Word’s built-in features, in 10-point font, with numbering following the order of appearance.

Authorship: In the identified version of the text, for publication purposes following anonymous peer review, the following author information must appear in a footnote on the first page: the author’s full name, highest academic degree, institution, email address, and ORCID. In the case of more than one co-author, in addition to the information mentioned above, the type of contribution made by each author (CRediT) must be specified, as outlined at: https://contributorshipcollaboration.github.io/projects/translation/translations/pt_latn/

Citations: For in-text citations of up to three lines, the author’s last name should be cited in parentheses, in uppercase letters, separated by a comma from the publication date (SILVA, 2000). If the author’s name is mentioned in the text, only the date is indicated in parentheses: “Silva (2000) points out...”. When necessary, the page number(s) should follow the date, separated by a comma and preceded only by “p.,” even if the citation spans more than one page (SILVA, 2000, p. 100). Citations from multiple works by the same author, published in the same year, should be distinguished by lowercase letters following the date, without spacing (SILVA, 2000a). When a work has two or three authors, all may be listed, separated by semicolons (SILVA; SOUZA; SANTOS, 2000); when there are more than three authors, list the first author followed by “et al.” (SILVA et al., 2000).

References: References, listed at the end of the text, should be arranged in alphabetical order by the last name of the first author, with book titles in bold, single-spaced, and without indentation. Examples:

• Books and other monographs (AUTHOR, A. Book title. Edition number. City: Publisher, number of pages);

• Book chapters (AUTHOR, A. Chapter title. In: AUTHOR, A. Book title. City: Publisher, Year. pp. X–Y);

• Dissertations and theses (AUTHOR, A. Dissertation/thesis title: subtitle not in italics. number of pages f. Year. Dissertation/Thesis (Master’s/Doctoral in Field of Concentration) – Institute/School, University, City, Year);
