Abstract

ABSTRACT: The main purpose of this article is describing the benefits of using visual resources in the English teaching and learning process not only to our students’ linguistic development but also to develop, by means of Visual Literacy, their criticism, communication and expression abilities in a way they become aware of the environment, of the different points of view and of their role in society as citizens and humans. To achieve this goal, we presente some of the digital subjects/natives characteristics and the fact that one of their main learning style is the visual one. Besides, the use of visual resources, the Visual Literacy and the Deep Viewing method are discussed. At the end, we describe two experiences the teacher-researcher had with the activity she created called Your opinion is important, and we present the results of it. Based on the results, we conclude Visual Literacy is as important as Reading and Writing Literacy and that it needs and should be taught in our schools.
