“MY THESIS IN 180 SECONDS”

Un genre textuel oral pour éveiller chez le grand public l’intérêt pour la recherche scientifique

Abstract

Conceived at the University of Queensland in Australia in 2008, the “my thesis in 3 minutes” competition has spread throughout the French-speaking world under the name “my thesis in 180 seconds”. This competition allows doctoral students to present their research subject in a simple, clear, precise and convincing manner to a varied audience. This article therefore aims to discuss the context of production of the oral textual genre "my thesis in 180 seconds", as well as to draw up some of its textual characteristics, in order to then present the main characteristics of a preparatory course intended for master's and doctoral students, particularly those who were going to do a doctoral internship in a French-speaking country, who wanted to learn how to present their research, writte n and orally, in French. To do this, we will present, first, the theoretical-methodological framework of socio-discursive interactionism (Bronckart, 1999, 2021; Schneuwly, Dolz, 2004; Dolz, 2016) which guided our research, then, we will describe the “my thesis in 180 seconds” genre to, finally, show suggestions for the use of this textual genre in the education of young researchers.
