Abstract

Objective: This article aimed to identify which theories and pedagogical methods have been used to build the undergraduate course in Health Service Management at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, MG, Brazil. Material and Methods: This was a documentary study with a qualitative approach investigating the pedagogical project of the aforementioned course. The search for answers was made in the light of pedagogical trends described in the literature. Results: A triple theoretical educational axis was identified, as follows: constructivist (explicitly) and skill-based (implicitly); social interactionism; and liberating. The interdisciplinary approach is evidenced by the joint work of applied social sciences and health topics, with emphasis on the area of public health. Finally, it is argued that the unveiling of the theory or its denaturalization are a major point to understand existing and daily practiced intentions, as contained in the Pedagogical Political Project (PPP). Conclusion: Every theory is based on a practice that – while being theorized – may influence other practices. The PPP is not different in this regard: it is considered as a guide for the training of workers, whose theories should converge to social transformation. DESCRIPTORS Education. Public Health.
