BRAZILIAN ABSTRACTS PUBLISHED IN THE IADR 85TH GENERAL SESSION REGARDING INSTITUTIONAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS
Abstract
Objective: This study aims to describe institutional and methodological aspects of the Brazilian abstracts presented in the 85th General Session & Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) which took place in New Orleans (USA) in 2007. Method: An inductive approach in addition to a statistical-comparative procedure and indirect documentation technique were applied by means of the www.dentalresearch.org site. Out of the 252 abstracts found, 153 (60.7%) were randomly selected for analysis. The Brazilian authors’ institutions (AI) were analyzed in terms of location and public or private characteristics. The number of included authors in addition to the subjects, partnerships and supports were also analyzed. Results: The results showed that 77.4% of the AI were located in Southern states, principally São Paulo (66.5%), and Rio Grande do Sul (8.5%). Moreover, USP (23.8%) and UNESP (19.3 %) were the most frequent institutions and 82% of them had a public feature; 74.8% of the studies involved 4-7 authors and 40.5% related to Dental Materials. Scientific cooperation occurred primarily with U.S. researchers (30.4%) and major funding agencies involved were CAPES (22.8%), FAPESQ (19.7%), NIDCR (16.5%) and CNPq (14,3%). Conclusion: It is concluded that the Brazilian IADR Denstitry research was predominantly carried out by founded public institutions in São Paulo state. Furthermore, the studies were marked by international partnerships and pronounced technical aspects of dentistry. DESCRIPTORS: Scientific Publication Indicators. Dental Research. Schools.Downloads
