"FUMAZETE" TALK ABOUT SMOKING IN SCHOOLS: HEALTH EDUCATION ACTIONS

Abstract

Objective: To report the experience of healthcare professionals in the development of an educational resource to enhance health education actions on smoking in schools. Experience Report: The educational resource was created in 2012 by two residents of a specialization course in the Multidisciplinary Residency in Family Health, Alagoas State University of Health Sciences. The educational resource consists of a doll called "Fumazete", which shows the signs and symptoms of a smoker; through the senses and ego states this doll demonstrates the changes in the smoking process. The resource is also composed by a wall, which has the trachea and lungs format and demonstrates by means of figures some components of cigarettes as well as the consequences of smoking. The children interacted with the doll and so knew the consequences of smoking, as well as the importance of supporting and guiding those who decide to abandon such dependence. Comments: Working with the doll was a guiding strategy that used the ludic and ego states to cause a different feeling in each person. By doing so, the individuals would reframe a moment of their lives that will be remembered due to the characteristics contained either in the doll or in the wall. Thus, this resource allows the students to learn about smoking and as well as to link this topic with their own life experiences and, as such, act as multipliers of knowledge to prevent the use of tobacco. The use of the educational resource "Fumazete " contributes to the rethinking of strategies that are conceived in the interaction between schools and health services and the community, providing a more effective and humane background.
