ACTIONS TO CONTROL OF DAMAGE TO HEALTH IN INDIVIDUALS WITH STROKE

Abstract

Introduction: The aging of the population in Brazil has led to an increase of non-communicable chronic diseases, including stroke. This pathology brings physical consequences with several complications in all individual’s life spheres, generating higher costs to the government on actions, procedures and health services. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the flow of actions to control health issues in individuals with sequels of stroke. Material and Methods: The data collection was carried out in primary care facilities (family health strategy), municipal rehabilitation clinics, Department of Health, community health agents at the Department of Social Assistance. Semi-structured interviews, questionnaires and medical records of individuals were used for data collection. Results: This study showed 56 individuals with sequels of stroke, with a prevalence of males with a mean age of 67.2 (SD = 13.9) years. A total of 40 individuals had had one stroke, and presented hypertension and diabetes as risk factors. No actions aimed at the control of stroke’s damages were found. Conclusion: There is no flow of specifics actions for this group of individuals, being limited to the assistance of sequels installed, and to risk factors for non-communicable chronic diseases.
