Abstract

Objective: This article aims to report the contribution of a tutorial group linked to the Education Program for Health Work (PET)/ Cervical and Breast Cancer Care Networks on the academic and professional training of undergraduate students. Reporting experience: We describe the activities of training, research and interventions in the practical scenery accomplished by the tutorial group during its first year of operation in the cities of Cabedelo and João Pessoa, Paraíba state, Brazil. Also, we discuss the results of a survey carried out with the students about the influence of these activities on their professional training, in addition to the knowledge acquired on HCN (Health Care Networks) and the difficulties and potentialities found during the training process. The following potentialities were identified: improved comprehension about the role of HCN; development of a critical point of view on the health care model; understanding about the community needs; improvement of the data recording system and of the monitoring tools to trace cervical and breast cancer. Comments: The activities performed are in agreement with the aims of the PET, especially when guiding health professionals training based on the demands and health polices of the country. As a result, it is expected to raise awareness of health professionals to act in different life and health backgrounds of the Brazilian population. DESCRIPTORS Education. Health Care Networks.
