Objective: To describe the main epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with breast cancer treated at a referral hospital in cancer. Method: A retrospective cross-sectional study involving women with breast cancer who underwent treatment at the Mastology Service of a cancer hospital, located in Cascavel, western region of Paraná, from January to December 2016. Results: 251 women were treated. The main reason for searching for health service reported by 130 (51.8%) patients was palpable nodule or mass and of these, 98 (39.1%) were younger than 49 years. 114 (55.0%) women reported not having relatives affected by cancer. The most frequent histological type was ducal infiltrative carcinoma in 195 cases (77.7%) and the most frequent staging was IIA in 67 patients (30.4%). 137 (68.9%) tumors had estrogen and progesterone receptors. Regarding the treatment performed, 175 (69.7%) women underwent conservative surgery and 124 (51.5%) used chemotherapy combined with radiotherapy as a complementary treatment. Conclusion: It was verified that a significant number of women affected by the malignant neoplasia of the breast do not fit into the current risk group, and the epidemiological and clinical search initiatives are essential to benefit the screening and contribute viable proposals to reduce the incidence in the population.
