Abstract

ABSTRACT:
The general objective of the article is to understand what receptivity is and its dynamics as seen in visits between residents and people from outside a quilombola community in Tocantins. As a specific objective, the text shows how two sectors of the community, Colina and Pavão, understand and compare their receptivity with that of the other through judgments, observations and surveillance made by them
and between them. The interest in investigating this movement is due to the emphasis that receptivity – to welcome someone – has on the group, and this happens due to a cultural factor, following Vó Antônia’s hospitality, as well as to a political factor, as receiving well allows you to control those who is received. Thus, it is possible to conclude that although receptivity is something commonplace among quilombola families, it is done in different ways depending on who arrives and on the reason and manner of their arrival, composing a large part of quilombola sociability.
