Abstract

This study presents results of a research about the information technology area, according to the recommendations of the theoretical approaches that deal with the organizations of the knlowledge time. It considers the university library as an organization that gathers informations and knowledge which should be available by technologies that can enable the access, as well as the usage and generation of new kinds of knowledge. In order to be characterized as such it is emphasized that those organizations must manage the “dimension technology” attempting to collect, store, generate and share the knowledge, causing to democratize it. It has as objective to analyze the adoption of information technologies that can facilitate the use of the knowledge in the Library of the University Center in João Pessoa (UNIPE), mapping the technological tools proposed by Angeloni (2002). Methodologically, the research is directed as a field study of an exploratory and descriptive kind and qualitative approach. The subjects that were adopted were the librarians in charge of the areas that presented the services during the supervised probation period, professionals who are considered the key-persons in the library considered as possessors of the implicit and organizational know-how. The instrument used to collect data constituted the non participant observation, registered in a fieldwork whose notes were validated by the informers. The results indicate that the library studied adopts the technological tools like internet, caracterizing the use of networks and workflow to promote the communication . It evidenced the necessity of a major knowledge of the tools which were indicated for its utilization in the environment studied. Facing the viability of the use of tools which were mapped we show a more accessible proposal, considering the resources of the institution as an integrated system.
