This research brings an interdisciplinary investigation, involving theories of Education and Information Science, with guidelines for the evaluation of Higher Education. It starts from the following question: What are the contributions of university libraries in the context of evaluating higher education?. Its general objective is to identify the contributions of the university library in the evaluation of higher education based on the evaluation instrument of the National System for the Evaluation of Higher Education (SINAES). For this, it uses the methodological contributions of a documentary research, adopting a qualitative approach and using content analysis to define categories and codify the results. It identifies in the results three possible dimensions for the performance of the university library and the librarian, namely: Didactic-Pedagogical Organization; Faculty and Tutorial; and Infrastructure. It contextualizes such possibilities with the scientific literature of the area and with the work of the Human Sciences Library of the Federal University of Ceará. It is concluded that the librarian is an essential professional in higher education, responsible for managing university libraries that can act in a dialogical and protagonist way, with professors and students, maximizing research results, enhancing learning and strengthening the university tripod of teaching, research and extension.
