This work has as its main field of study the Cultural Heritage of Science and Technology and aims to study the trajectory of the scientific collections present in the Museum of Science and Technique of the School of Mines of the Federal University of Ouro Preto (EMOP). The set of objects that make up part of this collection comes from the process of formation and consolidation of the Escola de Minas de Ouro Preto, inaugurated by Claude Henri Gorceix, in 1876. It was decided to initially bring in this work the formation and institutionalization of the collection of zoology and paleontology at the School of Mines at the Federal University of Ouro Preto. In the development of this work, the course of the Ouro Preto School of Mines was considered, its foundation and relationship with the musealization process institutionally detected in the 1970s, through an exploratory methodology of analysis of documents and informational fragments. This study sought to answer the question: how did the set of minerals present in the Natural History Cabinet contribute to the training of mining engineers in the 19th and early 20th centuries? The results show a transit of collections from other national and foreign institutions and their didactic use for teaching even after the creation of the Museum of Natural History and Paleontology.
