Introduction: Data Science has its beginnings at the intersections between Statistics and Computer Science, and is now an area that is also present in institutions of the iCaucus consortium of information schools, or simply ischools. Methodology: Characterized as a descriptive study in terms of its objectives and exploratory in terms of its technical procedures, it was based on a qualitative and quantitative approach to survey the characteristics of the scientific texts indexed in the Base de Dados em Ciência da Informação, BRAPCI, in order to see how the state of the art is outlined in terms of scientific production on Data Science in a national database in the area of information. Based on the content analysis technique, characteristics of 31 scientific texts indexed in the database were surveyed. Results: The subjects raised in the texts pointed to the use of technological tools, professionalization, curriculum, intersections of areas, scientific production, metadata, paradigms and organization of information. Final considerations: It was concluded that, as in some international productions, Data Science is well regarded in the field of information and its inclusion as an aggregator can bring significant results for both. However, unlike the international scenario, there are no Data Science courses in Brazil associated with Information Science schools.
