Abstract

Since the librarian works with a powerful tool for the development of human potentialities, which is reading, we attempted to promote, through playful workshops, reading activities that focused on children’s taste for reading, promoting a rich exchange of knowledge and leveraging social, political and cultural engagement of 40 children, aged 7-12 years old, from two Municipal public schools on the outskirts of Fortaleza. The methodology consisted in the development of storytelling activities; interactive dynamics oriented to practices of different readings; reading activities with magazines, newspapers, books of children and youth literature; and educational primers. We disclose the importance of reading practices, in a process of reflection on what they represent in the lives of children, explaining the use and importance of reading to the development of society. We obtained, thus, a satisfactory result with an increasing awareness of the children to various possible paths through reading, in a potential, interactive, dynamic, collaborative, active, and creative exercise, turning reading into a source of pleasure and leisure. Forming citizens who think, reflect, and act critically about the events around them.
