De pai para filho: o consumo conspícuo no ato de presentear

Abstract

The objective of this study was, through the speeches of parents of children up to 12 years of age, to understand how conspicuous consumption behavior is transmitted to their children. Here, consumption is seen as a form of cultural learning represented by the act of gifting happened from parents to children and their symbologies, because for this research it is in this context that that transmission is analyzed. 19 fathers and mothers were interviewed during the months of August and November 2019, and the results point to the act of giving as an educational aspect, of happiness and well-being and, also, as a parental compensatory form where children are given opportunities that parents didn't have in childhood.
