SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION ON SOCIAL INNOVATION IN HIGH IMPACT BRAZILIAN MANAGEMENT JOURNALS

Contrary to the classic view of innovation which considers inventive activity resulting in a new or improved product or process that has been placed in the market and is demonstrating economic results, social innovations are centered around diagnostics, the proposal of new ideas, and systemic diffusion and modifications according to social demand. Social innovations is still a new area of research, and follows an emerging trajectory in scientific exploration with growing interest from the scientific community. The aim of this research was to present and provide an updated overview of the scope of Brazilian scientific production on social innovations in high-impact journals in the area of Administration. The study also mapping of information such as: academic journals, researchers and institutions, the chosen methodologies, the most cited authors and articles, and years of publication. A bibliometric method of analysis was utilized. Eleven journals were selected from the A2 and B1 strata of the Qualis/Capes. Thirty-two articles about social innovations were identified in these publications. The results show a significant increase in the number of publications between 2007 and 2020; the prominence of the southern region of Brazil; and the use of qualitative methodologies as the main approach implemented.
