FREUD AND FANON:
PSYCHIC REALITY AND SOCIAL REALITY

This article purpose to expose the Freudian perspective on psychic events as opposed to the Fanonian understanding of mental processes. Sigmund Freud believes that the way the psyche develops is individual and is linked to the concept of psychic reality, which ultimately means the primacy of fantasy over reality. Conversely, Frantz Fanon does not consider it appropriate to universalize psychoanalytic precepts for all peoples. He believes that the black population has its psyche strongly influenced by social elements, therefore, it is not a strictly individual and fanciful process, but a social and material event. Each position has specific characteristics that, when analyzed in parallel, are capable of causing theoretical and practical perspectivism in the ways in which mental health treatment is treated.
