This article aims to clarify, in the light of Platonic dialogues, the intimate relationship between aesthetic experience and human knowledge. With this, we seek to present Plato's relationship with the arts through the figure of the lover of beauty given in the Phaedrus, in addition to the criticism he makes of mimesis, present in the Republic. In Phaedrus, Plato understands the Beautiful as the Form that appears to the eyes in the sensible scope through the corporal beauties. Through appearing, beauty awakens reminiscence in the lover of beauty. In short, two questions set the tone for the entire investigation, namely: (1) Is someone who loves beauty attached to mere imitations and, therefore, should he be despised? (2) Is there any positive participation in the process of knowledge in beauty?
