Abstract

The present study was based on the theory of “total quality management”. Currently, health services guide their actions into the quality management aiming to meet users’ needs and expectations. Objective: To evaluate the quality of hospital management according to professionals’ perception. Methods: This was an exploratory study which involved 185 professionals, working as managers/supervisors in seven hospitals accredited by the Brazilian Unified Health System in the city of Campina Grande-PB. Professionals’ responses were analyzed by means of a simplified analytical model and were discussed in the light of pertinent literature. Results: Data revealed that, according to professionals’ perceptions, the quality of health care management is directly affected by the process/information analysis, workforce development and technological leadership. Conclusions: Hospital managers/supervisors do not execute service assessment. Consequentely, hospital managers need to implement a hospital management leadership, organizational cooperation, investment in technology and process/information analysis, development of the workforce and of the service quality performance.
