OVERVIEW OF THE VULNERABILITY OF FARMER'S FAMILY HEALTH IN SÃO JOSÉ DE PRINCESA/PB, BRAZIL

Abstract

Objective: To describe the profile of farmers working in horticultures in the municipality of São José de Princesa, PB, Brazil, with regard to the production and knowledge on the management of pesticides used in plantations and their relation to health. Material and methods: This was a cross-sectional survey with a qualitative approach, carried out with 12 farmers in the municipality of São José de Princesa, PB. Results: it was found that farmers’ production within the horticulture is quite diverse and represents the main form of livelihood for their families. The lack of knowledge about the correct use of chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides was highlighted as the main risk to the health of the population. Conclusion: It is concluded that the implementation of continuous training would be a strategy to prevent or minimize future damages. DESCRIPTORS: Agriculture. Pesticides. Health.
