ASSESSMENT OF THE SAFETY OF STRENGTH TRAINING PERFORMED WITH LOCAL VIBRATION

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to verify the safety of isometric training performed with local mechanical vibration. Material and Methods: We performed 4 maximal voluntary contractions with local vibration applied in the direction of the resultant of the muscle forces. In two contractions, we applied local vibration with a frequency of 8 Hz and amplitude of 6 mm. For the other two contractions, the conditions were 26 Hz and 6 mm. Values of transmissibility and the estimated vibration dose value (eVDV) were analyzed. Results: When we applied the local vibration with frequency of 8 Hz, we observed transmissibility of 0.71 and eVDV of 6.9. During vibration with a frequency of 26Hz, the transmissibility was found to be 0.27 and eVDV was 14.1. Conclusion: Based on the results of our study, the safety of strength training performed with local vibration, applied in the direction of the resultant of muscle forces, can be influenced by the vibration frequency used.
