INFORMATICS TECHNOLOGY AND DATA COLLECTION PLAN: RESEARCH STRATEGIES IN SECONDARY SOURCES
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to describe the implementation of a plan for data collection in secondary sources by means of informatics technology. Material and Method: This was a quantitative study conducted in a school hospital between July and December 2013 as part of the PhD thesis entitled: “Factors Influencing Vertical Transmission of HIV in a University Hospital in southern Brazil”. This study followed the ethical principles of the Brazilian resolution 466/12 and was approved by a research ethics committee at the Federal University of São Paulo under protocol CAAE no. 16395413.4.0000.5505. Results: Three categories were found as the main result. The first category was about "Obtaining information from data in secondary sources" to report the study phases and procedures. The second category was about "The use of informatics for data collection", which brings about the experience of using informatics for data collection. Finally, the third category was about "Possibilities and limits on data collection in documentary research" which describes the main difficulties and limitations encountered in data collection. Conclusion: It is concluded that research in secondary sources utilizing computer resources for data collection is valid and enables researchers to work together with efficiency, quality and accuracy in their investigations.
